Sky Hawk Villa, St Croix, USVI
This private hilltop villa has breathtaking views overlooking
Christiansted, cooling breezes, a 12-foot deep pool, and is a true
island landmark. Originally owned by actress Maureen O'Hara and
aviator husband Charles Blair, this house was often visited by such
Hollywood greats as Lucille Ball and John Wayne. The villa's romantic
architecture, with its two towers, beam ceilings, and curving staircases,
was designed by John McDonald, a world renowned pupil of Frank Lloyd
In this hilltop villa, your privacy is assured. Beautiful ocean
and island views greet you in every direction. From the upper level,
you can see both the north and south shores.
Enter the villa through wrought iron gates to a spacious covered
patio, and a large pool deck, where you can read, relax and entertain
while being cooled by the island tradewinds. Beyond the custom 12-foot
deep pool is an amazing north view of Christiansted, Protestant
Cay, and Buck Island. You can watch seaplanes in the harbor, and
on clear days and nights, you can see the distant islands of St.
Thomas, St. John, Tortola and Virgin Gorda.
The villa provides many areas where guests can enjoy their privacy,
such as the west patio which makes a nice, shaded breakfast spot,
and the upper terrace with its views of the north and south shores.
The great room and main kitchen are in the main level of the east
tower. The room has hand-painted cabinets, vintage leather seating,
and a stone facade kitchen island with a shipdeck-style wooden counter
top. The full kitchen has all the amenities you may need, including
a dishwasher. The dining room and a secondary kitchen are in the
main level of the west tower. You can do your own food shopping
and preparation, or hire a private chef to cook for you.
Sky Hawk Villa has 4 bedrooms, each with its own full bathroom,
and can accommodate up to 8 guests. There are 3 queen beds, 1 king
bed, and a pull-out sofa bed on the main level if needed. With the
cooling tradewinds, there's no need for air conditioning.

Sky Hawk villa is ideally located in the center of St. Croix, just
5 minutes from Christiansted. Most of the island is within a 30
minute drive of the villa, including Frederiksted to the west, and
Point Udall to the east. The historic towns of Christiansted and
Frederiksted have lots of shopping, sightseeing, and casual and
fine dining. There are many beaches to choose from around the island.
St. Croix is well-known for its scuba and snorkeling, and Buck Island
is the most popular sailing-snorkeling destination.
Whether you choose water sports, exploration, dining or shopping
to fill your days, Sky Hawk Villa is an ideal base. Or you may choose
to spend your time simply enjoying your villa -- a destination itself
that you’ll want to return to year after year.
Please note these important points:
All guests must be 18 years or older. This is because the
pool wall and the upper terrace have drop-offs which would be dangerous
for children to play on.
This is a "vintage villa". Some furnishings and
fixtures are dated but functional. What the villa lacks in modernity,
it makes up for with the view, the privacy, and the breezes.
There is no air conditioning at Sky Hawk Villa. With the
cooling tradewinds, and open windows, you will usually feel comfortable
any time of year.
